Cupping therapy is an ancient technique that has been modernized and is used to treat many musculoskeletal conditions in the body. Cupping therapy works by creating a suction on the skin which helps to decrease pain, speed up tissue recovery, provide a decompressive effect to the surrounding tissues, and increase blood flow. There are three methods of cupping used in our practice, static, dynamic, and vacuum assisted cupping.
Static Cupping - While this treatment method is performed, the cups are placed on the skin and remain stationary throughout the treatment. This method is usesful when a targeted treatment is preferred.
Dynamic Cupping - While this treatment method is performed, the cups are placed on the skin and are moved around the tissue to treat a larger surface area and help break down adhesions in the myofascial system. Often times this treatment method is used while the patient performs ranges of motion or exercises to help increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
